2017 Christmas Decor Planning…Is It Too Early To Start Thinking About That?
2017 Christmas Decor Planning…Is it too early to start thinking about that? I don’t think so! Perhaps that has to do with me helping some of my clients with their holiday decor. Or perhaps it’s the fact that I get to see Christmas decor every time I visit the World Trade Center here in Dallas. More than likely though, it has to do with my love of Christmas and the holiday spirit and everything that comes with it.
The fact is, I’m usually thinking about my Christmas decor and preparing my decorating checklists a few months in advance. And sometimes, I’m thinking about next year’s decorations almost as soon as I’m done with this year’s decorating. I know, C-R-A-Z-Y! Usually those thoughts are centered around how I’d like to change things up a bit or what I would like to add to my Christmas collection, but nothing too concrete. Of course, those loosely laid plans could all change if I were to find the “perfect whatever” that sparked some inspiration.
The ribbons pictured above were the “perfect whatever” that jumpstarted my 2015 Christmas Decor. In year’s past, I had typically decorated with the traditional Christmas colors (and I still love that look), but I was eager to try something new since I was in the process of redecorating my family room. The moment I laid eyes on the dusty teal ribbon and the platinum bronze Merry Christmas ribbon, I knew that color scheme would be the direction for my Christmas decor that year. (I’m talking full on crush here over those ribbons!) Shortly after I found the ribbons, I spotted the cute snow white Santa and the frosted tree, and knew they would be perfect additions for my holiday decor as well.
From Inspiration to Christmas Decor Planning to Fully Decorated!
So, I had the ribbons, the cute Santa, and the frosted tree, but I still needed to come up with the rest of the plan. I knew that I would have to purchase a few additional ornaments to fit with my new color scheme, and luckily, I found the teal, purple, and pear green ornaments at Hobby Lobby and Michael’s. The rest of the ornaments and additional elements (the purple grape clusters, frosted pinecones, and tree topper decorations) were items I had on hand.
Designer Tip: To get that designer look, weave the color and theme throughout all of your Christmas Decor, especially in the social areas of your home – Front Porch, Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, and Guest Bathrooms.
A New Year and a Slightly New Look – 2016 Christmas Decor
As I mentioned previously, I like to change things up from year to year. The basic design elements may remain the same, but the look is always a little different.
Did you spot the differences between my 2015 Christmas Tree and my 2016 Christmas Tree? And did you happen to notice another difference?
To make it easier to spot the difference, here are both Christmas Trees side by side.
A few DIY Christmas Craft Projects to add to my Christmas Decor.
I made a few quick and easy DIY Christmas Decor Projects for 2016. I can’t take credit for the idea of the Scrabble “Season’s Greetings”, as I saw the idea on Pinterest. But I did have all the materials on hand so I thought, why not? And I adore the Sheet Music Wreath, and Ball Ornament Wreath that I made. When I was a child my grandmother and mom had some very much like these, and I felt it was time my family had some too! Last year on my birthday weekend, two of my longtime girlfriends came up for a visit and I taught them how to make these. We had such a great time, and hope to make it an annual event.
Christmas Wreath Tutorials – I’ll be sharing the tutorials for both wreaths in the very near future, so stay tuned! They’re both super easy to make. I promise!
2017 Mastrandonas Christmas Decor Plan
As far as what’s on the agenda for my 2017 Christmas Decor…the plan is still coming together and I’m still on the hunt for an unexpected item or two, or maybe even a new tree. But one thing is for sure…it will be changing! I can’t spill the beans just yet, but I think it’s going to be my best holiday decorating to date. I do hope you’ll check back to see what I created!
